Now Hiring: Graphic Design and Marketing Intern

Blue Horizon Energy is seeking a Graphic Design & Marketing Intern to join our team in our Minnetonka, MN office. Join a small but pioneering renewable energy company where you will work collaboratively with engineering, sales, and company leadership, while under the guidance of the Marketing Manager, gaining real-world experience in an industry that is as critical for our collective electrical infrastructure as it is for reducing the harmful effects of carbon emissions on our planet. 

Employment Status: Temporary Employee
Pay: $15 per hour, paid bi-weekly
Duration: 8-12 hours per week anticipated with a maximum of 40 hours per week. Schedule and hours are flexible to accommodate the intern’s other educational and life commitments.
Total Hours: Flexible: 120 to 300 hours anticipated but the total will be determined by the company and intern prior to the start date. The internship will conclude once this final number is reached.

Intern Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be curious, ask questions, and learn about the career methodologies and tools of graphic design, interactive design, content design, and how they all intersect with marketing strategy
  • Learn about the rapidly-growing renewable energy business sector that solar energy is a part of
  • Collaborate heavily with the Marketing Manager to facilitate learning and ensure tasks are completed on time with the highest standard of quality
  • Elevate the Blue Horizon Energy brand through the creation of brand assets across multiple mediums including digital, print, environmental design, as well as some video and audio
  • Support sales through the development of branded digital and physical sales materials
  • Collaborate with outside vendors including videographers, photographers, printers, trade show representatives, media representatives, web developers, and more
  • Other graphic design, marketing, photography tasks as assigned

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and be of legal working age
  • Must have reliable transportation to the Blue Horizon Energy office in Minnetonka, Minnesota
  • Must be ready to learn and take direction when needed
  • Must be comfortable working with Adobe Creative Cloud products like Photoshop, InDesign, and Lightroom. 
  • Must have an interest and willingness to explore new ways the company can strengthen its market position through marketing and design

Additional (but not required) Beneficial Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge or familiarity with other Adobe Creative Suite products like Illustrator, Premier Pro, After Effects, XD, or Animate
  • Experience or familiarity with basic 3D modeling software like SketchUp
  • Currently pursuing (or recently received) a higher education degree such as an Associates degree, Bachelors, or other certification in Graphic Design, Marketing, or a related discipline with a focus on visual communication
  • Experience working on a WordPress website, and/or basic HTML and CSS coding knowledge in relation to responsive web design
  • Comfortable with Google Business Suite, including Gmail, Google Maps, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Sheets, and Google Docs
  • Professional attitude with excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Experience with photography and photo editing
  • An interest and willingness to write copy for print and online
