Now Hiring: Solar Project Engineer Intern

Blue Horizon Energy is seeking a Solar Project Engineer Intern to join our team in our Minnetonka, MN office. Join a small but pioneering renewable energy company where you can apply your education and gain experience in an industry where opportunity is plentiful and experienced candidates are highly sought after.

Employment Status: Temporary Employee
Pay: $16 per hour
Duration: 1 to 3 months. Start and end date to be determined by the candidate and Blue Horizon Energy
Hours per week: Flexible: 8 hours per week minimum, 40 hours per week maximum
Total hours: Flexible, 120 to 300 hours, to be determined prior to start date

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide construction document production support for commercial solar array and energy storage projects
  • Coordinate and collaborate with project engineering, project management, sales team members, electricians, outside vendors, and municipalities
  • Utilize SketchUp to create construction documents including site layouts, one lines, details, etc
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of Blue Horizon Energy design/CAD standards
  • Learn about electrical engineering for renewable energy projects and this potential career path after graduation
  • Other duties as assigned relating to project design, permitting, and documentation

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Reliable transportation to the Blue Horizon Energy office in Minnetonka, Minnesota
  • Comfort with SketchUp drafting software, or proficiency with AutoCAD software and a willingness to learn SketchUp
  • Must be pursuing (or recently received) a Bachelors Degree, Associates Degree, or Technical School Certificate in Electrical Engineering/Design, Architectural Design, Renewable Energy Design with an emphasis on the electrical aspects, or similar related degree

Desired (but not required) Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Comfortable with Google Business Suite, including Gmail, Google Maps, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Sheets, and Google Docs
  • Experience with or exposure to Helioscope, Google Project Sunroof or other PV production modeling software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows/Office (Word, Excel, etc.) products
  • Professional with excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Strong attention to detail, with accuracy and thoroughness is a priority
  • A strong work ethic along with a positive attitude
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities
  • A willingness to learn and ask questions as needed to facilitate learning
  • A supportive team member, able to work in a collaborative office environment
  • Self-motivated with an ability to balance multiple projects at once
