When the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge began construction on a new Oak Savanna Learning Center in 2015, it was clear that sustainable energy was a priority. Regional Office Division of Engineering Energy Coordinator Mike Brickley noted, “The 4,060 square foot, high performance Oak Savanna Learning Center is a model of sustainable design and environmental leadership. The $1.5 million facility became reality with the support of the Friends of Sherburne and the surrounding community. The building is packed with energy efficient, renewable and sustainable features including a 17-ton geothermal ground source heat pump system, solar photovoltaic arrays, LED lighting, rainwater reuse system, high performance building envelope systems and other features.”  [Source]
